Who is eligible for Medicare Part A?
Most people age 65 or older qualify automatically if they or their spouse paid Medicare taxes while working. Some younger people with disabilities also qualify.
Does Part A have a premium?
Most people pay no premium for Part A, but those with fewer than 40 quarters of Medicare-covered employment may pay a monthly premium.
What costs are not covered?
Part A does not cover doctor visits, outpatient care, or most prescription drugs. Deductibles and coinsurance may also apply.
How do I enroll in Part A?
If you’re receiving Social Security, enrollment is usually automatic at age 65. Others can sign up during their initial enrollment period.
